Old Post: Deadmau5 Live

Went to see Deadmau5 last night in Chicago at the Congress Theater. Place was PACKED. It was completely sold out with one of the craziest crowds I've ever seen, and the Mau5 showed surprising versatility in his set. Usually he plays all of his stuff at 128bpm, but last night it was more like 124 or 126, which is difficult when he's splitting up every drop and breakdown into separate, sample accurate and synchronized channels in his mixer.

He started out his set with a bunch of minimal stuff, that I expect to come out on his new artist album to be released late Jan./early Feb. '10. That winded down a bit, and then he started dropping his more famous numbers like 'Arguru,' 'Moar Ghosts N Stuff,' 'I Remember,' 'FML' and 'Strobe' (which sent the crowd into a frenzy, as it's about 6 minutes until the beat drops).

Also, he managed to make some complex and interesting live mashups of his bleeps, giving variation to his set to the point where it felt like he was playing live instruments rather than pre-recorded music.

One thing in particular that he did was drop an acapella edit of 'Hi Friend!' over one of his new unreleased tracks, 'You Need A Ladder,' which is a remix of the theme music from the game, Zelda. A download link for a low quality version of the Zelda bleep is provided below.

Managed to grab an autograph from him on my Mau5 head in the second picture up there :). Also, you can check out my recording of his edit of 'Sometimes Things Get, Whatever' here.

Overall, this was quite an epic and crazy night, and by far one of the best I've ever had. If you guys get a chance to see the Mau5 live, I highly recommend it.
