Old Post: Bassnectar

Oh goodness gracious...what did we stumble upon? Only one thing is certain; Bassnectar is his own unique force in the universe.

He is apparently "a freeform electronic music and social experimentation project" created by Lorin Ashton, and a few on and off collaborators. Ashton describes Bassnectar's sound as "omni-tempo maximalism," by which he means combining beats and basslines with music of any or all speeds, time signatures, rhythms, and sound source. His sound gravitates towards heavier tempos with dubby and wobbly basslines.

He also uses electronic methods to embellish and reinforce other styles of music, like punk rock, blues, salsa, film scores, and others. Check out this unreleased Pixies remix (the original was played at the end of the movie Fight Club). It blew my mind the first time I heard it.

The Pixies - Where Is My Mind? (Bassnectar Remix)

Bassnectar's live shows typically consist of three major elements: sound, visuals, and a sense of unity. He gets up there with is REALLY long hair, puts on some of that dub, and just head bangs the shit out of his music like an old metal band member.

Overall this guy is one explosive dude, and I promise you loyal reader, we will be posting more of him.
