Setspeed

I’m going to take you back now to the roots of dubstep. Before there was Doctor P and Flux Pavilion, before Excision, before the bass melted your face, the minimalist dub was in. It was something you grooved to, something that you allowed to wash over your body; a bass ocean calmly putting you out at sea.

So it is with Setspeed, Bassmusicblog's newest addition, and such a new group I couldn't even find a myspace page. Coupled with a forthcoming release on Boka offshoot Saigon, Setspeed is quickly becoming a hit, so I was happy to see their newest two-bleep release find its way into my inbox to share with you all. Remember guys, support the artist and buy it if you like it.

Goodie Bag #13

It's been quite too long since the last Goodie Bag, and I plan on making up for lost time.

We're going to start things off right with Breakage's newest remix. As you know Breakage is famous for his melodic minimalist style (which in other forms of electronic music wouldn't be all that minimalist), the style that attracts veteran dubstep listeners as well as new dub heads. This time he remixes Clare Maguire and makes her groove in a way only he can. Watch out for the official release on October 18th, and big ups to Discodust for posting it first.

Clare Maguire - Ain't Nobody (Breakage Remix) [Amazing...!] YSI

Continuing on with the spirit of the last bleep comes one of Omega's newest bootlegs. It's got a mellow-step (or whatever) vibe to it that I'm totally digging.

CocoRosie - Werewolf (Omega Remix)
YSI

Definitely not something you see every day is a free giveaway on Beatport. However, recently I found a little remix that The Bloody Beetroots did given away for nothing as part of the 'Focus On France' release. It's not their best work, but it still blends together disco with electro in such a way that makes you like a deer in the headlights; frozen in place, waiting for the inevitable slam to hit you in the face.

Martin Solveig - C'est La Vie (Mixture) (The Bloody Beetroots Remix) YSI

It's been a while since I've posted anything on Haezer. The man is famous for pioneering his own unique take on electro thrash, and he recently gave away a little bleep in perfect 320 that is different from his usual style. I'm a bit late with this one, but get it if you haven't already.

Haezer - James Bond (Original Mix) <3 YSI

Udachi gave away this little bleep for free on his soundcloud. It goes back and forth between 70's TV show disco themes to dark, dank dubstep in the spirit of Skream's old stuff. Grab this one up now.

DJ Teenage Wolf - Cuerno de Sonido (Udachi Remix) YSI

One of my favorite acapella artists, THePETEBOX has done another little remix using (mostly) his voice. This time it's of Nirvana. We're not ugly!

Lords Of Dubstep!

I want to take a little bit of time and blog space here to talk about Nero. Daniel Stephens and Joe Ray hail out of the great city of London, the place where, arguably, dubstep was born. Originally a DnB artist, their first huge hit came from remixing 'Blinded By The Lights' from The Streets. This little bleep was so big it almost singlehandedly transformed dubstep from an underground genre that was hardly heard, to a worldwide phenomenon in electronic music.

Since then, it seems Dan and Joe have had the midas touch, remixing everyone from Deadmau5 to N.E.R.D. I know that whenever I see they have a new release, I get excited because they have a reputation of excellence. Their newest remix of Plan B is no exception. Recently, released exclusively to Discodust (who is posting dubstep on the regular, to my surprise and pleasure) Nero's remix shows you what they do. They don't have to take their music in a new direction or change up their style because they deliver. Every time.

Also make sure to stay tuned for their official remix of 'Stress' by Justice. It's sure to be epic, as is demonstrated by the video below.

Nikoi

One of the reasons I love keeping up this blog is finding new artists to share with you all. Be prepared for one of the more unique styles of DnB and dubstep out there.

Enter Nikoi (aka Mr Amenbreak) out of Kingsbury. The guy goes all over the place, blending the old, minimalist style of dubstep with DnB, among other things. Although you won't hear his like almost anywhere else anymore, his music is quite listenable, and from what I can tell, is a new take on the genre's. It's good to know that there is diversity out there. It is artists like Nikoi that push the envelope on what is good and interesting.

Make sure to follow Nikoi on his soundcloud page for future productions to broaden your mind and your perspective.

All these are in 128kbps. Hopefully he'll be releasing 320's soon!

This week features a number of exciting new bleeps from Nero (who I will be doing a big post on soon), Breakage, Danger, and c-Rok, one of my favorite electro house cover artists.

Still Here Still Sharing

It's been a good while since my last post, and I'm sorry for that. A combination of internet problems at home coupled with wicked flu-bug that had me out cold has made it near impossible to do any blogging for the last week or so. However, I've been steadily accumulating bleeps through that time to share with you guys and I'm getting full to bursting.

We'll bring it back with a brand new remix from NAPT, one of my all time favorite break-beat artists. They come back with a vengeance with a re-rendering of Daft Punk. Let the N-Funk rain.

Watch out for NAPT's forthcoming single "Emotion", out on Funkatech Records later this year with remixes from DnB heroes Brookes Brothers and house stars Reset!.

Classic Trance Remixed To Dubstep

I guess the title of this post kinda says it all. One of my favorite easy listening trance bleeps of all time has just been remixed into dubstep. High Rankin does an amazing melodic dub remix of Motorcycle's "As The Rush Comes." Candy to my ears, but don't take my word for it. Download it and decide for yourself.

Dubstep Giveaways

What's good bleepfans? I've gotten several dope little dubstep bleeps over the last week or so that I've been trying to figure out how to share with you all. I decided I'd just give them all in one post since most the posts at this blog are pretty bleep heavy. We'll start with the official dubstep remix of Afrojack's 'Take Over Control.'

Adam F does away with the funky, screeching, pitched synth that Afrojack has become known for, and has made this one into more a melodic stuffed dub beat. If you want a 320, look for the official release on Ministry Of Sound Records on November 7th.

Afrojack - Take Over Control feat. Eva Simons (Adam F Remix) [192 kbps] YSI

Enigma gives away his latest bootleg, this time of the theme music from Gladiator composed by Lisa Gerrard. Enigma's rolling melodic synth gets me every time. Nothing to do about this one except download it. Immediately.

Lisa Gerrard - Now We Are Free (Enigma Remix) <3 YSI

Once an electro house guru, Skrillex is now making some MASSIVE freaking dubstep. The dude has some serious talent. His remix of 'In For The Kill' by La Roux is so crazy, it made it to Excision's Shambhala mix (and is now available on 7digital!). However, today I'm going to share something different. You might call it a bit repetitive, but it's still huge.

Skrillex - Scary Monsters & Sprites (Original Mix) [Link removed]

And last but certainly not least, our friends over at Rub-A-Dub-Dubbb did a post on Bar 9's newest remix. This time of one of Foals most popular bleeps. With remixes from the likes of John Dahlback and Topher Jones, it's most definitely set as a big release, and Bar 9 puts their dirty dub effect on it for another great remix from them.

Foals - Spanish Sahara (Bar 9 Remix) YSI

Break It Down Yo

In an industry where everyone is trying to get on top, you need something that sets you apart from the herd. In the world of house music, Josh and Matt David have just that as Breakdown, a Los Angeles based funky electro duo.

Apparently, back in the day Josh turned to DJing, and Matt started producing around the same time, which lead to a natural combination of their skills to create dancefloor ready rhythms. They combine electro synthesis with a funky broken up percussive feel for massive effect.

Danny Tenaglia - Music Is The Answer (Breakdown Remix) [WORD!] YSI

Haydn Hoffman

Straight outta Irvine California comes Haydn Hoffman, a new hit in electro house. His sound fits somewhere in between Afrojack and Neus with funky breakdowns and hard hitting drops. Found some of his little bleeps in my soundcloud inbox yesterday, and was digging them. Get ready to thrash.

The Bloody Beetroots, Refused - New Noise (Haydn Hoffman Remix) YSI

GIANT

You don't always hear too much about Russia, or the music that comes out from over there. Are their only exports Polka and Vodka??? One thing I do know is that Yesnoblog is based out of Russia, but that's about it for me. Maybe I'm just igna'ent. Luckily for me, and for you, Top Billin just signed their first ever Russian artist.

Enter GIANT from St. Petersburg, 3 guys who make everything from dubstep (they’ve released stuff previously on Hench and Dub Police) to house and beyond. Here’s 2 bleeps of high-fueled and bass heavy house with a tech twist from my new favorite Russians. These tunes bang hard. Buy it if you like it peeps.

Plump DJs Keep Killin' It

I've been a big fan of the Plump DJs for a long time now. Ever since I heard 'System Addict' back in 2007 I knew I had found an artist that I would follow forever. Today I am honored to be sharing their new productions with you guys.

Dirty Super Car - Get A Grip (Plump DJs & Maximilian Remix) YSI

What we have here is an electro banger that builds progressive ambiance over a fantastic sample from Dirty Super Car, then twists and shouts when it drops. I'm digging the wobble bass that they incorporate, which is possibly Mazimilian's influence, although it's hard to be sure these days as the Plump DJs are constantly changing their sound.

I should also tell you guys about Grand Hotel, a new label to develop a forward thinking platform for new electronic dance music, their own productions and those of other inspiring artists worldwide. The Plump DJs have released two new little bleeps there. Preview them below.

If you guys like their new stuff, make sure to buy it over at Beatport.

The 2010 MTV VMA’s; Some Things Never Change…Or Do They?

Another year another Video Music Awards from MTV. I will tell you that I haven’t actually watched them for about a decade, and for good reason. I like GOOD music :P. But this year I made an exception, and I will say that watching the VMA’s was a different experience than usual.

I mean sure, there were your typical pop artists clamoring for attention and lip-sincing their performances, women dressed in little to nothing (with the exception of Lady Gaga who had no less than THREE ridiculous outfits (pictured above^)), and the host was telling people to go get sh*t-housed, and setting a poor example for children around the world. One thing I will say is that the light show was excellent. Whoever was behind the scenes pulling the strings got together a phenomenal crew to put together the lights to go with the performances. Grade-A awesome!
But the main reason I watched the VMA's this year is because the guy playing the music was Joel Zimmerman. Many of you may know him better as Deadmau5.
That’s right people, Deadmau5 served as the DJ, and musical maestro for the entire VMA’s. Pretty crazy, and it shows you how far electronic music has come.
While there are mixed reviews/feelings about who is arguably the best electronic music producer ‘going mainstream,’ I definitely enjoyed seeing the Mau5 up in his cube with his LCD head, playing songs that have become anthems in the house world, for the masses. Right before commercial breaks you’d hear ‘Ghosts N Stuff,’ or his unreleased hit, 'Cthulu Sleeps,’ or ‘Hi Friend’ with MC Flipside. He also did eight pop remixes of La Roux, The Black Keys, Jason Derulo, and others, and three performances which, to my dismay, also aired during commercial breaks.
One of the performances was with Robyn while she sang her hit single, ‘Dancing On My Own’ to a remix that Deadmau5 wrote not a week before. Here's a preview of their performance right before a commercial break. Very dubish. Too bad all the good stuff was cut short.

Leading up to the night, the Mau5 was swamped. He had not a moment to himself, as is demonstrated by the picture<<< ;).

My wish is that this sort of thing doesn’t go to his head. Back in the day, I used to be into a little underground punk band called Blink 182. As soon as they hit MTV, they turned to a steaming pile of crap. Let’s hope the same thing doesn’t happen with Deadmau5.

Tom Tom

The Loose Cannons are having a MASSIVE year with remixes of Lady Gaga and Rihanna, setting-up their own label, and finding time to work on a new studio album and live show. Rihanna liked their remix of 'Rude Boy' so much that she actually asked them to do a re-lick of her new single, 'Rockstar-101' (out now on Def Jam Recordings).

Today we have what looks like an EP(?) give away of an original that they did with Peo de Pitte. To be perfectly honest, I don't think the original is all that amazing, but they have brought in some serious remixing talent from Will Bailey, Rude Bullit, and an electro-thrash remix from the Trashcan DJs. Tommie Sunshine's A Monster!

Yes he is. Hot off of the presses is Tommie Sunshine's newest remix. This time of one of Lady Gaga's hits, 'Monster.' Electro-House goes from melodic with vocals in typical Tommie style, to a total grunge fest at 3:30 (possibly Jon Kennedy's influence). Look for this one to be played in clubs around the world, and pick up your copy right now!

What The Bleeps Radio: #14

This weeks radio show was more about the mix then track selection. I threw together what I thought was a good combination of old and new dance bleeps that both represented new dance music today, and my own personal style (which I guess leaks in no matter what, right?).

New things off of the Japanese Popstars's new EP, and from DJ Zinc, Tommie Sunshine (who did a great remix of Lady Gaga), and Umek whose single, 'OMGWTF' is on the Beatport Top 10 at #1 right now.

As always, download links to individual bleeps are included in the bleeplisting along with the archive of the show. Enjoy.

Street Soul Music

RuN RiOT has been busy these days. It seems like every time I turn around he's releasing another remix to the blogs. His style is bass-heavy Breakbeat, and it's awesome. His latest remix of Subsource is no exception. He does a twist on a little bleep called 'Sweet Soul Music' that has engrossing low frequency bass underneath Hip-hop vocals and on top of solid sounding drum hits. Make sure to pick up your copy for free right now.

We No Speak Americano Remixes

Back in March, Yolanda Be Cool and DCUP released a little bleep that went on to be a bit of a phenomenon on the music blogs and in clubs around the world. It was called, "We No Speak Americano," and if you don't have it you should get it at Beatport.

Just to show you how popular this little bleep really is, the video below has over 24 MILLION views!

Since its release, it has had a number of official remixes from the likes of Chew Fu, Urchins, and the Rockerz Chiefs, some of them are quite good indeed and worth looking into. However, it also got the attention of a little Dubstep artist who goes by High Rankin, and it's smashing.

In addition got the attention of the Electro-thrash artist, VNRP. And in case you missed the other remixes I posted, I'll include those as well; a nice Nu Disco remix from Moonchild, and a great Electro House edit from Chew Fu.
