Mensah is a new name in the Dubstep scene, putting out grimey bleeps that will make your head spin. He is a bit of a mystery, with no bio on him anywhere, so there's not a whole lot I can tell you, other than he is based out of Bristol, UK.
I came across the guy, when no fewer than 24 of the people that I'm following on soundcloud favorited this collaboration of him and Sweet Little Bleeps favorite, Noah D. Turn up the volume please.
That's right bleepfans, after a long absence, Neo Tokyo is back with vengeneance. This hard hitting, electro prince has lost none of his touch, as shown by the remixes of Pony Pony Run Run, Foals, and Plasma, along with Britney, Chanty Poe and a few others. Some serious heavy hitters here, with a melodic touch that Neo brings each time. This guy can do no wrong.
The latest release from Top Billin sees Sticky Noodles, a NYC based duo of DJ Krames & DJ Morsy. Taking influences from cutting edge dance music from around the world, they combine ghetto flavoured club music that flirts with Dutch house, bass heavy drops, and funky breakdowns. Just when you think you have them figured out, they'll switch it up on you and drop it like it's hot. I can see direct influences from artists like Afrojack, Fukkk Offf, and Peo de Pitte, among others.
I think this new duo is here to stay, and I look forward to releases from them in the future.
Krames & Morsy are Sticky Noodles EP:
1. Freak It (Original Mix)YSI 2. Booty Drop (Original Mix) 3. Kimbo (Original Mix) 4. Love Ruff (Original Mix)
One of my personal favorite times of the year is Halloween. Pumpkins get carved, houses get TP-ed, kids go around getting candy. However, in the club, girls can get away with dressing up as sluts, and the DJ brings the darkest and scariest music he/she's got. With the possible exception of New Years, Halloween can be the biggest time of the year for dance music (although with New Years there's no dressing up).
So you're the musical maestro for the night, and you have this great gig lined up, but you're wondering what to play in your DJ set. In the past, I've kind of scratched my head on what to play at Halloween to keep in with the whole vibe. Each crowd will be different, and want/expect different things, but here are a number little bleeps to sink your teeth into.
Man this post in gonna be big...we'll start things off with a great Tech meets Electro House banger from Sebastien Leger. He samples Marilyn Mason's 'The Beautiful People' for great effect.
Moving right along, we've got a great one from Hervé. It's called 'Zombies'..."Yes I've seen zombies...I've seen men that have died and come back to life!"
And speaking of zombies, Designer Drugs released a little bleep by that name a while back. Hot Pink Delorean remixed it and gave it away a while ago, so I can share that one with you all.
No Halloween would be complete without talking about Justice. They had a little bleep, off of their album Cross, that electrofies 'Night On Bald Mountain' by one of the darkest classical music composers of all time, Mussorgski. Look for a HOT Nero remix in the coming months.
Laidback Luke came out with a fantastic bootleg remix of 'Thriller' not too long ago. This little bleep usually goes over well regardless of what time of year it is, but since it's Halloween, I imagine it will be particularly special.
Dimitry G has a dark, scary vibe in a lot of his music. Below you will find bleeps that sample the movies Saw, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, among others.
I will also be sharing a smattering of random Halloween House bleeps that I have accumulated. I am not usually a big fan of the 'typical House sound,' but these should still be in your library. I'll probably end up playing one or two of them myself.
I'd like to take a little bit of time, and blog space, to talk about Beta Recordings, one of a slew of labels started by John B that is now putting out some stunning, next level bleeps. In particular, a couple of cutting edge "newcomers" have had a release on Beta Recordings. Those artists would be none other than Sweet Little Bleeps favorites, High Rankin, and Terravita.
Terravita being the alternate DnB/Dubstep alias of the Massachusetts based Electro House trio known as Hot Pink Delorean, who have been pushing the envelope of what is possible in that genre for over 3 years now.
And High Rankin is a veteran dubstep producer out of the UK who has a following of nearly 5,000 on his soundcloud, and boasts quite a library of original bleeps, with some incredibly creative remixes.
Today they both have a 2 bleep release on Beta Recordings; DnB and Drumstep. Catchy melodies over hard hitting bass in both. Check them out now.
I suppose this is part deux for two reasons. The first one being that he played back to back sets this last Friday and Saturday at the Congress Theater in Chicago. The second one being that this is the second time that I've seen Deadmau5 perform at the same venue.
What do I think? Two words; F*CKING STELLAR! I don't normally use profanity on this blog to describe sets, but Deadmau5 really had a spectacular set last night. It seems the more he tours the more intricate his live set up gets, not to mention his music, which flips around between minimal, progressive, dubstep, electro and house. Here's his setlist as best as I can remember it. Links are to youtube video's or his soundcloud. Deadmau5 Setlist - Chicago Congress Theater 10-23-10 1. Industrial Strength Sleeping Pills* [Intro] 2. Some Chords 3. Sofi Needs A Ladder* 4. Cthulu Sleeps* 5. The Reward Is More Cheese 6. Bad Selection* 7. Moar Ghosts N Whatever 8. Ghosts N Stuff 9. Sometimes Things Get, Whatever (Alternate Version)* [Viewable below] 10. Sometimes Things Get, Whatever (Original Mix) 11. I Remember 12. FML 13. I Said 14. Strobe 15. Right This Second* 16. Not Exactly + GITS - Making Of Cyborg Acapella* 17. Arguru
First Encore: 18. Raise Your Weapon* 19. One Trick Pony* 20. Unknown* [Some sort of mellow lullaby type track]
* Denotes unreleased original from the Mau5 himself.
Below here, you can see him working on his alternate version of Sometimes Things Get, Whatever (0:36). Duuurtey!
Some highlights of his set: - He drops all the music out at bleep 10 and the blue screen of death appears. - He mixes the opening credits theme music from the first Ghost In The Shell movie (1995), with Not Exactly, which worked perfectly in key together and made for an uplifting experience. - 12 new unreleased bleeps/live edits to existing bleeps - Not one but TWO encores.
Overall I'd say there was never a dull moment. Whatever else you have to say about the guy, he is a very talented musician, and is on the cutting edge in both production and performance. If you haven't seen him live, I strongly recommend doing so, as his live setup is amongst the best in the world.
It's been a while since the last Selections In Bass mix. I tried, and I tried unsuccessfully to find the right little bleeps to include in this mix, but just today I tried a different combination, and behold; it worked!
In the last couple of hours, Zeds Dead has released a brand new little bleep. I'm glad to be bringing you this as soon as it was released. This one is an original and features Omar Linx on the vocal. Grab it right now!
And a post on new things from Zeds Dead wouldn't be complete without tell you all about them being signed with Kissy Sellout's San High City Records. They are finally getting the attention they deserve. Also, check out a relatively new remix they did of Dragonette. It takes some things from 'Here Comes The Boom' and their 'Pyramid Song' remix, but it's still awesome.
It is here. My side project, Ill & Natti, has released our first EP.
Ill & Natti was born when Donald (DJ Reevo) Revolinski and Micah Salaberrios, discovered they had a mutual love for Reggae and Dubstep music, and a desire to blend the two. They like to take the best from both and shake it up to further an up and coming genre in music.
Their live performances are unique, with Micah up on the microphone, MC-ing to the crowd over the Reggae/Dub, and Reevo behind the decks, keeping it fresh, as you can see in this video here.
Today sees the worldwide release of the Babylon EP. Preview it below.
We will be getting things started right with bleeps from Rusko, and Bassnectar, and continue into KRUU Exclusive territory with 'Deep Sector Dub' from my main man, Dash Board, as well as new Reggae/Dubstep bleeps from Ill & Natti. Tune in at 4pm CST, and a link to the show along with the bleeplist will be available after 5pm. What The Bleeps Radio - 10/16/10 128kbps
I've got a lot of little Electro-Thrash bleeps here to give away. I was trying to find a way to post these individually, but I think it best to just share them all in one post.
Ninetynine gives away a brand new production. It reminds me a lot of what Neus does, as it's got that pew pew pew flair that he uses, and it's definitely one for your hardcore dancefloors. Make sure to follow Ninetynine on soundcloud for future releases from him.
Last Japan continues his streak of jungle influenced, dutch-house-esque electro with a new little bleep. You don't have to reach far for this one, you can get it right here.
Classixx gets remixed yet again. I thought I wasn't going to do any more posts on their remixes, but this one's actually quite good. Million $ Mano does a Nu Disco/Old Skool House rendition of 'I'll Get You.' Wonderful.
The Drum & Bass Arena gives away yet another little bleep. This time it's a mellowed out mix by Artificial Intelligence. It reminds me a lot of the old days when there was a lot of this stuff flying around. Definitely quite listenable for those of you not normally inclined towards DnB.
MiMOSA does a short little remix of Nina Simone. It somehow keeps its R&B/Blues feel while also introducing elements like old NES 8-bit sounds, and a deep resonate bassline at the drops. Something for your library.
I.D. gives away a new production that rides the line between mellow Electronica and Drumstep. It's a great little bleep that blends multiple genre's together for great effect. Maybe this will set a trend that makes Dubstep come full circle back to the mellow, minimalist side where the different elements are indistinguishable from each other. That's my hope anyway.
And lastly we have Sweet Little Bleeps favorite Chrispy teaming up with Krypton to bring you some massive Bass. Chrispy has always been under my eye, and it has been a pleasure watching him grow into a pretty decent producer. His new release is a testament to that.
This is the 200th post for Sweet Little Bleeps, so I had to make sure that it's a fitting post. I was cruising around on the internetz the other day when I came across Hatiras' soundcloud page. On it he is giving away a number of bootlegs that he's done of artists that include Ludacris, Kanye West, Donna Summer, Daft Punk, and Dragonette, and I'm going to share all of them with you now. Make sure to follow him on soundcloud to stay up on future releases from the guy, as he is one of the most talented producers in the House would today.
Congorock has released a hot new Jamaican Hip/hop influenced electro banger earlier this year called 'Babylon,' and it has since gotten remixed by a number of great producers (including Proxy, Steve Angello, CJ Bolland, and others).
However, recently it has been remixed by one hell of an up and coming artist duo, who go by Urchins. These guys have been hitting the studio hard, giving us a funky flavor to many new releases in the world of dance music. Today they bring a whole new flavor to 'Babylon' that I never thought could be done.
Oh yes, and it's quite big. Featuring Analogic Recordings artists, Filth Collins, Marshy, Psy:am, and Sirr Paul are all featured on here. Bleeps vary from mellow/listenable to positively FILTHY. Grab 'em while they're hot!
Celebrating the success of their 4 part Urban Electro Project series, the Beat Assassins have decided to give away part 4 absolutely free. Straight to the World was the most highly acclaimed track of the series backed by an incredible remix by electro breaks man of the moment Peo De Pitte.
Yes that's right folks, everyone's favorite guru of Bass is back with a new EP. It's called Wildstyle, and it's due for release on October 19th. I am expecting big things considering how big his last two releases were.
Also, if you live in Europe then you will have a chance to see Bassnectar live. I saw him at Ultra Music Fest last April, and I can say that without a doubt, out of all the big names there, he was my favorite performer. He puts on QUITE a show. Here's his tour dates for November.
Fri 12-Nov-10 @ Fabric, London UK Sat 13-Nov-10 @ Institute, Birmingham UK Tue 16-Nov-10 @ Tuesday Club, Sheffield UK Thu 18-Nov-10 @ Ifor Bach, Cardiff UK Fri 19-Nov-10 @ Crawdaddy, Dublin IR Sat 20-Nov-10 @ Café Leopold, Vienna AT Bassnectar - Wildstyle Method (Radio Edit) [NICE!] YSI
Here's something you don't see every day, although it's becoming more commonplace in the last few months than it has in a while. A Salsa influenced House bleep.
Also, I posted a little bleep from Voodoo Chilli (aka Hervé) a while back. It has a similar Latin/House feel with a twist of Electro. I highly recommend getting this one too if you haven't already.
No he's not. Despite only being 18 years old, Dem Slackers has quite a few titles to his name. His most recent addition is the Let's Go EP (out now), and it is everything I've come to expect from one of the best, young up and coming artists in electronic music today. Funk/Hip hop influenced Electro bangers that are destroying dancefloors the world over is what we have on our hands here, with remixes from some of the hottest veterans out there.
The talented people from Boemklatsch Records have forwarded a few 192kbps copies of the PeaceTreaty remix, and one of the Bart B More remixes to share with ya'll. If you guys want 320's then, like me, you'll have to buy it on Beatport. It's good to show support for good music, 'cause then it will keep getting made.
Hey folks, it's been a hot minute since I last did any posts, and for that I apologize. I have been hitting the studio hard with my partner to create content around a Reggae/Dubstep group we have started called, Ill & Natti (more to come on that later). Normal updating will resume next week.
In the meantime, it's once again time for What The Bleeps Radio on KRUU 100.1fm. This week features a lot of slightly old Progressive/Tech/House/Trance. It's not normally my style, but I feel it's important to keep things fresh. Good things from people like Oxia, Kaskade, and Pryda. A link to download the show will be available after 4pm CST.
